PM Modi remains seated even during adjournment, chats with MPs in Rajya Sabha
Modi remained seated in the House and so were most of the members from both treasury as well as opposition benches.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was present at Rajya Sabha on Thursday, remained seated even during an adjournment of 15 minutes with many other members from various political parties, including some from the opposition.
The Prime Minister during the adjournment chatted with MPs. Modi reached the Upper House shortly before the Question Hour at 12: 00 hours, at a time when Opposition leaders demanded the presence of Modi. Questions relating to Prime Minister's Office were listed to be taken up on Thursday.
The House was, however, adjourned after about 15 minutes till 12:29pm. After that, Modi remained seated with the headphones on in the House and so were most of the members from both treasury as well as opposition benches.
Bollywood actor-turned politician Jaya Bachchan (SP) went to the Prime Minister and was seen exchanging pleasantries. She was followed by AIADMK members and a Left MP.
Reports said renowed boxer and Rajya Sabha member Mary Kom was also seen discussing certain things with Modi.
Leader of Oppositions Ghulam Nabi Azad said while the Prime Minister has been addressing his party MPs in Parliament House and even speaking outside, the opposition parties have been demanding his presence during the debate on demonetisation issue.
"We had been demanding for last 15 days (presence of PM). ...We are against blackmoney. We want to speak on this issue but with whom? Our anguish is that the Prime Minister is holding weekly meetings with his MPs in Parliament House. He is also speaking outside. Our demand is that the Prime Minister should be here and listen to us," Azad said.
