TN Minster of Electricity P Thangamani on Tuesday said power supply in Chennai city would be restored by evening.
Power supply in the city has been disrupted due to cyclone Vardah, which went disastrous, killing 10 people.
Around 2,000 trees were uprooted by the cyclone and hundreds of electric posts had fallen. Rapid efforts to restore electricity were in progress, around 4,500 workers are trying hard to restore damaged electric posts, the minister said to a press conference.
Meanwhile, after being smashed by the cyclone, Chennai city is slowly waking up to normalcy. Flight and train services have partially resumed. Schools will be shut on Tuesday and rescue operations are progressing.
Health Minister C Vijay Baskar flagged off medical camp vehicles to all zones in Chennai from Omundurar multi-specialty hospital. These vehicles will travel across the city and help people to avoid fever and water-borne diseases.
