Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital to meet ailing DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Saturday and wished him a speedy recovery.
Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukarasar, former president E.V.K.S. Elangovan also accompanied Gandhi during his visit.
"I wanted to personally wish him a speedy recovery, happy to see that he is doing well," Gandhi said after meeting Mr Karunanidhi.
DMK patriarch Karunanidhi had a tracheostomy in Chennai's Kauvery Hospital on Friday where he was admitted on Thursday night after he faced difficulties in breathing due to a throat and lung infection.
A medical bulletin by the Kauvery Hospital stated that the DMK supremo was “stable”. Dr S Aravindan, Executive Director, Kauvery Hospital added that the former chief minister is being treated with antibiotics and being monitored by a team of doctors.
Karunanidhi was re-admitted just a week after spending a week in hospital for a drug-induced allergy. Doctors had said he was there on nutritional and hydrational support. He was allowed to go home a week later.
As the doctors advised him rest, Karunanidhi had reduced his public appearances issuing statements on key matters - such as demonetisation - from his home. The party’s general body meeting, scheduled for December 20, has been postponed due to the leader’s health.
