RBI says 22.3 billion pieces of notes issued in one last month

Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday declared that 22.3 billion pieces of notes have been issued to banks and their branches since November 10 to distribute among public so that hardships faced by people post demonetisation can be reduced.

RBI on their new press release said banks have reported banknotes worth ₹ 5,92,613 crore have been issued to public during November 10 and December 19 of the year and claimed that the central bank has done everything to reduce the suffering of people after November 8 note ban announcement.

The Reserve Bank also said that they have issued 22.6 Bn pieces of notes of various denominations to banks & their branches for distribution to public during the same time. Out of this, 20.4 billion pieces belonged to small denominations of ₹10, 20, 50 & 100s and 2.2 billion belonged to higher denominations of ₹2000 & ₹500.








Earlier, RBI withdrew its earlier circular on cash deposits over Rs 5000 demonetised notes and said there will not be any enquiries on such deposits above Rs. 5,000. After facing a public backlash, RBI came with a fresh notification on Wednesday, saying it has withdrawn the earlier circular, which made it mandatory for the depositors to reveal the source and also to explain to at least two bank officials, why they have not deposited the notes earlier.
