Ambani says Jio’s growth faster than FB, WhatsApp, free offers extended till March 2017
Claiming Reliance Jio has crossed 50 million users, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said the service has grown faster than Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype in the last three months.
Announcing Jio New year offer, Ambani said the users will be able to use free Jio 4G services till 31 March 2017.
“Starting 4 December 2016, every new Jio user will get Jio’s Data, Voice, Video and the full bouquet of Jio applications absolutely free, till 31 March 2017,” he said.
He said that on average Jio customers are using 25 times more data than an average broadband customer. Ambani thanked the government of India for helping the fast track launch of Reliance Jio.
He said that Jio has successfully rolled out eKYC (know your customer) across 2 lakh outlets in India which is nearly equally to total number of ATMs in the country. “We are in the process of doubling this by March 2017, ” said Ambani.
He said that Jio customers have shown unprecedented love for Jio but the company has not received the required support from existing telecom operators. He claimed that total 900 crore blocked were by 3 major telecom operators since the launch of Jio. Amabani claimed that over the past months, the call block rate has come down from over 90% to nearly 20%.
Ambani congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “bold and historic decision” to demonetise high value currency notes. He said that with deomonetisation the PM has given the strongest push to the growth of digitally-enabled, optimal-cash economy in India.
