A Russian military aircraft carrying 39 passengers including seven crew members has crashed at the country’s Far East region on Monday, said latest media reports.

According to BBC, the Ilyushin-18 aircraft met with tragedy, while attempting to land due to adverse weather conditions.

All the passengers escaped the crash, as reported  by  Russia Today, added that 16 passengers were seriously injured and have been taken to hospitals. However, there are reports that 20 seriously injured passengers were admitted in hospitals.

“As a result of the incident, all passengers and crew members are alive. 16 people were severely wounded. They have been evacuated to the hospitals in Tiksi by search and rescue helicopters,” Russia's RIA Novosti reported quoting sources.

The plane was broken into three pieces after the crash."They have been evacuated to the hospitals in Tiksi by search and rescue helicopters.According to the report from the scene, the plane crash landed today at 4:45 local time, 30 kilometers from Tiksi Airport,"  Defence Ministry spokesperson told
Russia Today.


Reports quoted Military sources as saying that the plane did't send any distress signals, during the crash and hostile weather and severe cold might have caused icing of the plane.

As reported by  Sputnik News, officials have identified the crash site and a launched an operation to the site led by three Mi-8 helicopters.

A team has been dispatched to Yakutia to collect more information about the crash-landing of IL-18, reports added.

The IL-18 planes were introduced in 1957, and are considered to be the most reliable Soviet aircraft of that time. It has remained Russia's most important and most durable airliner for many decades. According to experts, the plane had achieved 45,000 flight hours and are being frequently used for military use.
