Samsung Galaxy A5: Price, release date, features revealed

The Samsung Galaxy A5 is an upcoming mid-range smartphone that could be officially announced in the next few months. A couple of days ago a slew images of Samsung Galaxy A5 were leaked, taken from a hands-on video that was subsequently taken down from YouTube.

The design of the upcoming handset looks like its premium sibling Galaxy S7. A recent video showed Galaxy A5 sporting customizable Always-on-Display (AOD)- a feature that Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are proud of having. AOD keeps users on track with the recent notifications while keeping calendars and clocks within reach.

The Galaxy A5, will have relatively similar rounded corners, and a fingerprint scanner on the front. Obviously, there are some differences between the S7 and the A5, including the fact that the new phone comes with a USB Type-C port, doesn't have a protruding rear camera, and neither a heart rate sensor.

Galaxy A5 will run Android Marshmallow, but given the timing of the launch, the flagship could run on Android 7 Nougat out of the box next year.

The handset is said to be shipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB via MicroSD card. The improvements in Galaxy A5 should be on its battery and RAM. This device, according to some sources, may include an 8-megapixel camera on the front, and a 12-megapixel camera on its back. The device will be pre-loaded with Android 6.0.1.

Galaxy A5 is expected to be priced around $439. As a comparison, the 2016's edition was introduced at around $320 and the price gap seems to be huge for a slightly revamped smartphone.

When it finally hits the market the Galaxy A5 could be available in four colour variants: black, pink, blue, and gold.
