AIADMK bats for Sasikala as Jayalalithaa's successor
AIADMK spokesperson C Ponnaiyan claims that as Jayalalithaa had deposited Rs. 7 lakh in Sasikalas name, it proves that she had accepted Sasikala as her heir
Legal experts have opined that VK Sasikala cannot be former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's successor just because the deceased AIADMK chief had deposited some money in the former's name.
Sasikala is all set to take charge as the general secretary of the AIADMK. Senior party members have welcomed the decision and Sasikala is planning to call an all-member meeting to discuss further procedures.
An event was organised at Poes Garden on the 11th day of Jaya’s demise.
All senior party members were present on the occasion. Meantime, AIADMK spokesperson C Ponnaiyan said Sasikala was a close companion of Jayalalithaa.
"She was the one to advice Jaya when difficult situations arose in the party. Jaya had decided Sasikala as her heir. She had deposited Rs. 7 lakh in the name of Sasikala with Sriram Investors in 1991. This proves that she had accepted Sasikala as her heir," he said.
But advocate Kumaradevan of Madras High Court said: “If money was deposited in one’s name, he or she can claim that money. But, it doesn’t mean that he or she can be the heir of the depositor. Assets of the dead go to blood relatives.”
