South City Mall in Kolkata witnesses fire break

Kolkata's South City Mall saw a major fire break on Sunday and 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Following the incident, Disaster Management Group officials are stationed outside the mall where two hydraulic ladders were also brought.

Firefighters were forced to wear oxygen masks to reach fire spot since the entire third floor of the building was deluged with fire.

The incident occurred at around 9.15am on the third floor, where the food court was located. All those who had come for the first movie show of the day were safely evacuated while no casualties were reported.

"Prima facie it seems the fire was caused due to a short circuit. No one was trapped inside the mall. We are trying to douse the fire as soon as possible," Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee told DNA.

Electricity supply to the mall has been disconnected amid the ruckus.
