Story behind Sakshi’s role in Dangal
Nitesh Tiwari, the director of Danga, didnt want to cast Sakshi, but Aamir Khan had suggested to get her on board
Ekta Kapoor’s favourite bahu Sakshi Tanwar who has worked in some Bollywood films before, wouldn’t have thought she would star opposite Aamir Khan in Dangal.
If reports are true, the director of Dangal, Nitesh Tiwari didn’t want to cast her. But Aamir Khan had suggested to get Sakshi on board.
Recently, a behind-the-scenes video was shared by Aamir Khan on his facebook page, where he mentioned that his mom Zeenat Hussain, who loves watching TV, is a big fan of Sakshi. Since his mother loves Sakshi to much, Aamir immediately suggested to get Sakshi on board, as she’s the apt person to play his on-screen wife.
“One day the universe decided to be generous and I became a part of Dangal,” said Sakshi in a video. Although her name was suggested by Aamir Khan, Sakshi had to go through the process of auditions and finally bagged the role.
Interestingly, Sakshi belongs to Alwar, near Haryana, which played a major factor and helped her bring out the Haryanavi flavor in the film.
Earlier, Sakshi Tanwar was one of Ekta Kapoor’s favourite actors, thus she played lead roles in Ekta’s serials, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Bade Achhe Lagte Hai. Although the later didn’t have a good run, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki ran on Star Plus for eight years.
Dangal is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and the journey of his daughters Geeta and Babita. It is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Siddharth Roy Kapur. Dangal will release on December 23, 2016.
