The whole opposition sttod up and started shouting and asked the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who also holds the Hom portfolio to release a statement on the issue. Sarkar replied the matter was subjudice and opposition members would have to wait for the court's verdict.
Opposition members stormed to the well and raised slogans demanding that Speaker Ramendra Debnath allow discussion on the matter.
At this juncture, Roy Burman snatched the mace from the Speaker's table and fled from the House. He later handed it over to the watch and ward staff in the lobby following which the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 PM.

When the House resumed proceedings, the Speaker condemned the act by Roy Burman. The House functioned normally after the remarks.
Roy told CNN-News 18 : "I fled away with the mace because I was not allowed to put forward my views on the present law and order situation in the state. I wanted to raise my point that crime against women has increased in recent years and I would like to request the media to highlight the issue."
