Viral V Acharya, has been appointed as new Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India by Centre on Wednesday.

Acharya’s expertise includes empirical analysis of systemic risks of the financial sector, financial regulation, according to his profile on the university website.
Acharya is working as the C V Starr Professor of Economics at NYU. He passed out from IIT, Mumbai in 1995, after completing his bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering and later a doctorate in Finance from NYU in 2001.
He had brief stints with the prestigious London Business School (2001-08), Coller Institute of Private Equity at LBS as academic director (2007-09) and also worked with the Bank of England as Senior Houblon-Normal Research Fellow in 2008).
