West Bengal CID Arrests Pavan Ruia for Jessop fire case
The CBI had earlier sent notices to Ruia to appear before the court for his alleged role in the theft and arson of the Jessop factory in West Bengal.
West Bengal CID officials on Saturday arrested industrial baron and Ruia Group Chairman Pavan Ruia for his alleged role in the Jessop factory fire case.
According to media reports, CID arrested Ruia from his New Delhi residence. The CBI had earlier sent notices to Ruia to appear before the court for his alleged role in the theft and arson his Jessop factory in West Bengal.
The West Bengal police arrested two people for their role in the theft from the factory premises in Dum Dum, added sources.
CBI officials later revealed that Pradip Nandi (18) and Jhantu Karmakar (21) have been nabbed by the agency. So far the agency has booked about 15 people in connection with the fire incident, further added sources.
The state government also formed a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the controversial fire case at factory premises.
Recently, a massive fire broke out in the factory’s painting department. Official said, this was the third such fire incident reported from the factory premises in recent times.
A fire had broken out in the painting department of the vacant factory premises, the third such incident in two weeks.
Former workers of the factory had alleged that the fire was part of a "conspiracy by a third party", following which the Pawan Ruiagovernment ordered a CID probe into the mishap.
The state government had also registered a complaint against Ruia at Dum Dum police station. Last April, the state government also passed a bill in the state assembly to take over the owner ship of the factory and Dunlop, and has bee paying salary to workers since then.
Meanwhile, as statement from the company said, Pawan Ruia (chairman of Ruia Group) doesn't hold any position in this company or have shares in Jessop. Thus how can there be an FIR against him".
