Will not work with Pak actors in future, Shah Rukh Khan promises MNS chief Thackeray
Having witnessed the controversy that engulfed Karan Johar’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil earlier this year for featuring Pakistani actors, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Sunday met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS chief Raj Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai ahead of his film Raes’ release.
Khan’s upcoming film “Raees” features Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, is scheduled for a release next month. After the meeting, MNS Chief Raj Thackeray said, “He (Shah Rukh Khan) had come to inform that rumours about Mahira Khan promoting Raees are false.”
According to reports, during the meeting Khan promised Thackeray that Mahira Khan will not come to India for promoting the film. “Shah Rukh Khan met Thackeray at his residence a short while ago and gave this assurance. He has also committed to not engaging any Pakistani actors in any of his future film ventures,” MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Ameya Khopkar told reporters.
After September 18 Uri attack that left 19 Indian soldiers dead and the September 28 surgical strikes by India on Pakistan terror camps, the MNS had strongly protested against hiring of Pakistani actors by Indian film-makers.
Thackeray had vowed to stop release of a few films in which Pakistani actors are playing roles, including Karan Johar’s recent “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and SRK’s “Raees” which has cast Mahira Khan.
