Air India is third-worst performing airline in the world
Air India, national airline has been ranked third-worst performing airline in the world, revealed a study by an international aviation company FlightStats.
El Al (56 %) is on the top of the list of worst performers (41.05), followed by Icelandair, 41.05 % and Air India – 38.71 %.
KLM (11.47 %) is rated the best airline while Iberia (11.82 %) and JAL, ( 12.2 %), stood at second and third rankings respectively. Qatar Airways, (13.66 %) and Austrian Airlines 14.26% cliched the foutth and fifth positions respectively.
Jim Hetzel, vice president of aviation and distribution at FlightStats, said that it was a mammoth task to complete the list of the best and worst performers.
The only available resource for the study was the monthly report by the U.S. Department of Transportation for leading domestic carriers. But it was purely based on a self-reported data from the US alone, and didn’t covered data on the international flights operated by major airlines
“We stitch data together from 500 different sources,” Hetzel, told Bloomberg. The study is based on factors like light-tracking and positional services, airport runway times, radar services, airline records, airport data, and such governing bodies as Eurocontrol and the Federal Aviation Administration. “All of these pieces come in in different formats, all with different elements of value, and a lot of times the sources don’t agree,” added Hetzel.
“We’ve built the technology and logic to sort that out and validate information across multiple sources. It’s a pretty interesting process,” the expert added.
