Akhnoor terror attack: 3 GREF personnel killed, high alert sounded
According to the report, three terrorists believed to have sneaked into Indian territory across the LoC launched an attack on the camp at around 3 AM
At least three General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) personnel were killed in an attack on their camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor area on Monday.
According to the reports, three terrorists believed to have sneaked into Indian territory across the LoC launched an attack on the camp at around 3 AM. The gunmen first lobbed hand grenades at the camp and later started firing, the report added.
The army cordoned off the camp and launched an operation against the gunmen after this year’s first attack in the Jammu region. A high alert has been sounded in Khour area and at all Army camps following the infiltration. "The attack has taken place in the morning. Reinforcements have been rushed to tackle the terrorists," a senior police officer in Jammu told India Today.
The GREF is the parent cadre force of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) that builds and maintains border roads in the country.
Over the last few month there has been a spike in terrorists attacks on forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Seven Indian soldiers were killed in November when militants dressed as policemen stormed a military camp in Jammu’s Nagrota.
