Bengaluru molestation bid on burkha-clad woman was fake, staged
Irshad had reportedly targeted his sister-in-law on Friday morning in an attempt to scuttle her marriage proposal as, the police claimed, they were in a relationship for the past four years. Most of the bruises on the woman were self-inflicted. She had bit her own tongue during the assault.
Latest reports hint that the KG Halli molestation bid in Bengaluru, in which a youth was reported to have outraged the modesty of a burkha-clad woman while she was heading for her work at dawn, was staged and the wounds found on the body of the ‘victim’ were self-inflicted.
The city police claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of Irshad Khan (34), the soon-to-be brother-in law of the complainant, on Sunday, Bangalore Mirror has reported.
Irshad had reportedly targeted his sister-in-law on Friday morning in an attempt to scuttle her marriage proposal as the police claimed they were in a relationship for the past four years.
He had accompanied the complainant when she went to lodge an FIR with the police and also reportedly later leaked out the security camera footage to the media to ensure the incident gets maximum traction to break her proposed marriage.
“We identified the accused since he had a peculiar way of walking as we could spot in the CCTV footage. It is easily noticeable and he later confessed after we took him in for questioning,” Hemanth Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner, Bengaluru city police (East) told BM.
Irshad, already married, works as a sales executive in a private firm in the city, while the complainant was working as a handler with a vegetable and fruit stockist in Koramangala. Irshad planned to marry her as his second wife.
The accused, according to the police, had selected the particular spot to ensure that his face would not be visible in the camera footage. The police also claimed that most of the bruises on the woman were self-inflicted. She had bit her own tongue during the assault.
As of now, a case has been booked against Irshad under Sections 354 and 509 sections of the Indian Penal Code for outraging the modesty of women.
