Bengaluru police arrest four in Kammanahalli molestation case

The Bengaluru police on Thursday arrested four of the seven persons detained a day earlier in connection with the sexual assault of a woman on New Year’s day in Kammanahalli in Bengaluru city’s eastern region. Sources said police have also identified the main attacker in the case as Leno, a youth of the same locality who had been stalking the woman for a while.

The Bengaluru police on Wednesday detained two men and five accomplices for questioning after CCTV footage of a young woman being groped and molested in a deserted lane of the Kammanahalli area in East Bengaluru on the night of December 31 by two bike-borne assailants surfaced online,

The Indian Express reported.

Police told IE that during the investigation, they analysed the footage and technical data, including mobile phone location, before detaining them. The woman was accompanied by another female friend who she dropped off in the same street.

Leno, a BCom student in the city, is among those arrested. The three others arrested in the case are Ayyappa, Raju and Chinnu.

According to the police, Ayyappa waited on a scooter while Leno molested and assaulted the girl. Raju and Chinnu are reportedly part of a group of youths who were stalking the victim and her friend.

All the accused are residents of east Bengaluru and had interacted with the victim in different capacities, police sources said. One is a courier delivery person and the other works at a hotel.
The victim, a student hailing from the Northeast, has given her statement, sources said according to the
report. She has, however, not lodged a complaint with the police.
The incident was captured on a CCTV camera at a house near the site of the attack. Police took up the case on Tuesday night after the CCTV footage was provided by a resident. More arrests are likely in the case, said the police.

In the video, a woman is seen walking towards her house around 2:40 am when two men standing on a bike appear in the corner. One of them gets up and gropes her before dragging her across the street towards the other man as she tried to wrestle her way out. This continued for a sometime before they throw her on the ground and drive away.
