A calendar in Maharashtra with photos of several BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar inauspicious.
The calendar in Marathi was first publicised by blogger Outcast India. It has the election symbol of BJP with several photos of its leaders including PM Modi, late Gopinath Munde and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The calendar clearly mentions several days as auspicious and several inauspicious. April 14. the birth anniversary of Ambedkar is noted as inauspicious.
According to Janta Ka Reporter, the calendar has been published by one Manoj Radhakrishnan Kokate, secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP. Poonam Mahajan, a BJP MP is the national president of BJYM.
The BJP has been facing the outrage of Dalits because of the rising atrocities against the community allegedly by the party cadres. The brutal flogging of youths in Gujarat's Una district had led to widespread protests by the community against BJP.
The support of Dalits will play a crucial role for BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
How Dalit support was important for BJP was evident when Prime Minister named the new mobile payment app BHIM. In his speech at Talkatora Stadium on December 31, Modi has repeatedly evoked Ambedkar.
