Delhi: Speeding BMW hits Uber cab, kills driver
A FIR under sections of causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC has been registered at Hauz Khas police station.
In a disturbing accident, a Uber cab driver was killed on IIT flyover in South Delhi when his WagonR was hit by a speeding BMW in the wee hours of Monday.
The WagonR driver, Nazirul Islam, had joined the cab fleet a day before he met with the fatal accident.
The accident took place at 11.30 pm near the Munirka flyover when a speeding BMW X5 hit the WagonR from behind--the impact was such that the rear portion of the WagonR was completely destroyed.
The driver of the BMW fled from the spot, police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to trace him. Initial probe indicates that the BMW driver lost control of the vehicle because of high speed and rammed into the WagonR from behind. Both cars are mangled.
A FIR under sections of causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC has been registered at Hauz Khas police station. However, hundreds of cab drivers have been protesting outside the Vasant Vihar police station and demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
According to the reports, the owner of the BMW X5 is a member of the Delhi Gymkhana Club, and the vehicle is registered in the name of a company which has an office in Chandigarh. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the BMW is either in his late teens or early 20s. After the accident, the youngster driving the BMW and another friend came out of the car, saw the cab driver and fled the spot.
