Tech major Apple has sued Qualcomm for about $1 billion over royalties. Apple reportedly made its decision to terminate its contract with Qualcomm in an effort to make it into a regulatory issue, added reports.

Qualcomm may file lawsuits in against Apple, it is learnt. Qualcomm has been a major supplier to Apple and  Samsung, and supplied chips for connecting iphones  to WiFi.

About 40 percent of Qualcomm’s last year’s revenue of

$23.5 billion came from Qualcomm according to Reuters. But some tech sites have reported that Qualcomm may continue to  supply of chips for the iPhone. Qualcomm is of the view that it is a small issue in the contract which Apple is exaggerating and turning into a major regulatory problem.

Qualcomm is a big supplier to Apple as well as Samsung, as it provides them with chips which help smartphones connect to WiFi. Qualcomm’s, last year’s revenue was $23.5 billion, of which, these two companies accounted for almost 40 percent, according to Reuters.

Apple has alleged that the chip manufacturing firm has been overcharging for its chips and not paying around $1 billion in rebates.
