EC hears both groups, reserves order on Samajwadi Party symbol

At the end of a four-hour-long hearing on the dispute regarding Samajwadi party's symbol on Friday, the Election Commission of India has reserved its order. ANI reported that EC will now come with its decision on who should be given the party symbol.

ANI reported that SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav were present during the hearing held at EC.

Indian Express reported that the decision was taken to avoid the split in the party, adding that, lawyers representing both Mulayam and Akhilesh have attended the hearing.

During hearing Mulayam reportedly told EC that, he is only a guide and well wisher of the party, not its chief, in an effort to downplay the rumours about split in the party.
