Ahead of Goa assembly elections on February 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today address an election rally in Panaji.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state has a tough challenge following Aam Aadmi Party's aggressive poll campaign other than Congress.  AAP has fielded former bureaucrat Elvis Gomes as its chief ministerial candidate.

Speculations are also being held upon party's call on Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. It will be a crucial decision ahead of polls if PM Modi makes a big announcement on Manohar Parrikar today.


On January 23, BJP president Amit Shah said that the decision on whether Manohar Parrikar will continue as Defence Minister or return to state politics in Goa will be taken only after the assembly elections.

"We will decide where Parrikar will work after elections," the Bharatiya Janata Party president said. While Amit Shah's statement fueld the speculations over Parrikar's return to state politics.

The BJP has already announced 36 contestants for the 40-member legislative assembly in Goa.
