A BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh Akhilesh Khandelwal has offered a reward of Rs 10,000 to anyone who hits ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Khandelwal took to his Facebook account on Saturday to make the announcement. He has alleged that Bhansali was trying to "distort history". According to reports, he also added that it was his "responsibility to rein in such forces".
“They [such film personalities] are trying to distort our history to show us in poor light in public. We can no longer remain silent. We consider it our responsibility to rein in such forces”, Akhilesh Khandelwal said on Facebook.
Khandelwal, who is the chairman of the Hosangabad civic body in Madhya Pradesh, later told reporters that he did not regret announcing the reward.
The Congress party has sought action to be taken against the BJP leader for promoting hate and assault on social media.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted at the Jaigarh fort, where members of the Karni Sena vandalised the 'Padmavati' film sets for allegedly distorting the history.
The Film & Television Producers Guild of India Ltd condemned the assault as “extremely unfortunate, deplorable and totally unacceptable to the Indian film industry”.
Many Bollywood celebrities came together to condemn the attack and even requested the state and central government to intervene in the same and to take action against the guilty.
