Jallikattu: Security beefed up in Madurai

Security has been beefed up in Alanganallur in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu as people from different parts of the state have started thronging the panchayat town after news spread that despite the Supreme Court ban, jallikattu would be conducted at venues where the event was held previously.

As tension prevailed in the area, police said they were maintaining a strict vigil and would not allow bulls to be released into crowds, a report in

Local people hoisted black flags in many places in protest against the ban on the sport.

Supporters of jallikattu, along with major political parties in the state, have been demanding an ordinance for conducting the sport.
