Karnataka: Baby born with 4 legs and 2 male sex organs in Raichur
Parents were not initially reluctant to take the infant to VIMS for higher treatment, but later agreed after the counselling of family members and the hospital staff
A 23-year old woman hailing from Karnataka's Raichur reportedly delivered a baby with four legs and two male sex organs in the early hours of last Saturday.
Lalitamma gave birth at the Dhadeasugure Primary Health Centre (PHC) and later the infant was taken to Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Ballari, Times of India reported.
"It was a normal delivery," Dr Virupaksha, who was on duty at the time of the child's birth, was quoted by TOI as saying.
Lalitamma her husband Chennabasava are residents of Puladinni village and the parents were not initially reluctant to take the infant to VIMS for higher treatment.
However, they agreed for the transfer after the counselling of family members and the hospital staff, reports said.
Dr Divakar Gaddi, who is handling the case at VIMS, told TOI that a team of surgeons is looking into the baby's condition and is a very challenging case for them.
Another newborn child from Karnataka made headline last year, after a 19-year-old woman gave birth to a 15 lbs (6.8 kg) baby girl that doctors said possibly be the heaviest child ever born in India.
"It is the biggest baby in India, I can say. Whether it is the biggest in the world, I cannot say right now," Dr Venkatesh R, district health official in Hassan district, was quoted by BBC Hindi as saying then.
