Mamata says PM Narendra Modi should be arrested
"I also have information that Modi wants to arrest many other TMC leaders." TMC chief said.
Reacting to the arrest of TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using government agencies against those who raised voice against demonetisation.
CBI earlier today arrested Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam. He is the second TMC MP to be arrested following the arrest of actor-turned-politician Tapas Paul on last Friday. Sudip was earlier summoned by CBI two times in December 2016.
Alleging that Bandopadhyay was arrested due to pressure from the PMO, she asked why should Narendra Modi and Amit Shah not be arrested?
“I just can’t think that Sudip Bandopadhyay, who is our party’s leader in the Lok Sabha will be arrested. I also have information that Modi wants to arrest many other TMC leaders like Abhishek Banerjee, Sovan Chatterjee (city mayor) and Firhad Hakim (minister),” Mamata was quoted by saying The Indian Express.
“I am shocked, but not scared. Let him arrest all of us. I openly challenge him to arrest me. Let me see his guts. He may silence others, but not me. He can’t suppress our voice," she added.
Sudip is a senior MP of the TMC, and his arrest is considered to be a serious setback to TMC. He was at the forefront of TMC’s attack against the demonetisation policy in Lok Sabha. TMC has expressed its strong resentment against the demonetisation drive to the Union government and to RBI governor Urijit Patel during his recent visit to Kolkata recently.
Sudip has termed the arrest as purely political and said, he has become victim of political vendetta by the Centre, adding that, “I said I will come to face CBI interrogation to know what is against me.”
Meanwhile, Angry TMC workers have attacked BJP headquarters in Kolkata, and the situation is getting worse as per latest reports coming from the city.
