Kerala police arrest two for brutal rape, murder of Odisha woman in Idukki

The Kerala police have nabbed two plantation workers in Maravoor, Idukki district, who allegedly raped and killed a woman hailing from Odisha.

According to police, the body of Sabitha Majhi, a 33-year old worker from Odisha, was found with at least 50 brutal injuries at a tea plantation in Kuttikkanam of Idukki district on Sunday.

Police said accused Bhoolok Batra (from Odisha) and Viswanathan (from Tamil Nadu) took her to a secluded place on Sunday. She was brutally raped by the duo, and later hacked to death.

The victim had over 50 cut injuries on the chest and stomach, the post-mortem has revealed.

The accused confessed to the crime, they added.

Police said the accused, who were neighbours of the victim, had some grudge against her, which led to the gruesome murder.

Following a complaint from Sabitha’s husband, the police began a search for her and later found her mutilated body hidden in a bush.

They attacked her when the victim had gone to collect firewood. The body was found by midnight.
