Parthiv Patel ton helps Gujarat win maiden Ranji Trophy title

Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel with a powerful knock of 143 guided his team to a five wicket victory against the powerful Mumbai team in the last day of the Ranji Trophy finals at Indore's Holkar Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a Mumbai’s score of 312 on the fifth day, Parthiv easily steered his side to reach the target and clinch the title for the first time.
Gujarat kicked off a memorable journey this season, with a draw against Baroda in Jaipur in October 2016, followed by victories over Railways, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand finally culminating in their first-ever title win in their sporting history of the game.
Parthiv became the first Gujarat captain to bag the prestigious trophy. He scored a crucial 90 runs in the first-innings, and an astonishing century in the second innings and also dismissed seven Mumbai batsmen to guide his to team to victory.
In the finals, Mumbai were no match for the spirited Guratai side. Resuming to play at 47 for no loss on Saturday, Gujarat needed 265 to clinch the trophy. A 116-run partnership by Parthiv and Manprit for the fourth wicket sealed the fate of Bombay, helping their team to win the title in style.
