Protest march against Engg student

A march conducted by students' organisations to the Pambadi Nehru Engineering College in Thrisur, Kerala, in protest against the death of an engineering student Jishnu, turned violent on Monday.

Activists destroyed the class rooms and equipment and SFI activists pelted stones on the police force which had taken position at the college, Mathrubhumi News reported.

ABVP activists first marched to the college, which was closed down following the death of the student. KSU and SFI activists followed suit. A strong police force was stationed in front of the college.

The SFI activists who entered the college compound destroyed the college building, class rooms and flower pots.

Though the ABVP march ended peacefully, the march by KSU and SFI reportedly turned violent.

Kozhikode native Jishnu Pranoy (18), a first year computer science student, committed suicide at the college hostel on Friday evening after he was allegedly caught copying during examination and beaten up by the college authorities.
