The curtain controversy happened during when Dr Jamal Ahammed, Nileswaram Taluk Hospital superintendent took classes about Pulse Polio immunisation among children
A doctor is taking Pulse Polio awareness class for Muslim women in Kerala. The doctor is seen blocked by a curtain in photos shared in social media where the women attending it have already worn Purdah, the traditional dress for Muslim women. The class as part of the Pulse Polio campaign of Kerala government was held in Kasaragod district's Nileswaram and the incident is going viral.
The curtain controversy happened during when Dr Jamal Ahammed, Nileswaram Taluk Hospital superintendent took classes about Pulse Polio immunisation among children. The place is known for it's conservative population.
The incident stirred highly charged debates in social media. Social media users had so many questions about it like the logic of using a curtain in front of already veiled women, the sanctity of women in front of men. Many praised Dr Jamal for his effort to proceed with his duty even in a difficult situation.
The medicine for children as part of the government's 2017 Pulse Polio Immunisation programme will be distributed in coming Sunday.
