A 23-year-old female IT employee at Infosys’ Hinjewadi IT park campus was found murdered inside the office on Sunday evening.

A 26-year-old security guard has been apprehended in connection with the murder. According to police, the deceased, identified as K Rasila Raju was strangulated to death with a computer cable.

"On the basis of the CCTV footage from the company premises and other clues, we zeroed down on a security guard from Assam, who after the incident, fled and now has been held in Mumbai," said Arun Waikar, the senior police inspector with Hinjewadi Police Station.


The systems engineer was originally from Kerala and was working at the firm's office Hinjewadi IT park. According to police, she had come to the office on Sunday to work on a project.

Rasila was working on a project along with two other employees of the company from Bangalore office.

According to police, the incident might have taken place at around 5 PM, but police received the call around 8 PM on Sunday night.

"Her manager was trying to call her, but there was no response. He then called and asked a security guard to go and check, and when the security guard went to see her, the woman was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state in the conference room," ACP Vaishali Jadhav-Mane said.

While cops are yet to ascertain what led to her murder, they have zeroed down on the prime suspect Bhaben Saikia, a 26-year-old from Assam who worked as a watchman in the office.  Police said that he was the only one who had accessed the room where she was sitting alone and working.
