I am really happy that Ishaan is working with Majidi for his first film: Shahid Kapoor
I dont think Ishaan could have asked for a better debut. Majidi is one of the best directors in the world," says Shahid
While not everyone is lucky to make a cinema debut in Majid Majidi film, luck has opened for Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother, Ishaan Khattar. The award-winning director and crew gathered at Colaba’s Mukesh Mills for the first shot of his upcoming film, ‘Beyond the Clouds.’ Shahid and his mother Neelima was there to support her son, as was AR Rahman.
It was a big day for the family as Ishaan Khattar made his acting debut with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyong the Clouds. The mahurat was shot at Mukesh Mills in Colaba, Mumbai. The mill was converted into a lane littered with car workshops by production designer Mansi Dhruv Mehta.
“I can’t say much about the film, but I am glad that people who matter to me are around,” said an ecstatic Ishaan who was also happy to receive the support from his parents Rajesh Khattar and Neelima Azeem as well as elder brother, Shahid Kapoor, who were all present to support the young actor on his big day.
Shahid, who is happy that his brother is making his debut with the best in the business said, “I don’t think Ishaan could have asked for a better debut. Majidi is one of the best directors in the world, and I am really happy that Ishaan is working with him.”
Shahid also went on to tell the director that he’s a big fan of his work and thanked him for casting his brother in the film. In return, the filmmaker told Shahid that he’s looking forward to watching Rangoon after watching the trailer.
The Iranian director has been frequenting India for two years to finalise a suitable location for his Hindi film. “It’s a big day for me because I’ve been wanting to make a film in this land of marvels for many years. There are a lot of similarities between Iran and India; that’s why I wanted to work here. My cinema has received good reception from Indians. Finally, I’m in Mumbai with a lovely team to narrate a story woven around the lives of common people,” said Majidi.
While the female lead is yet to be finalised, it was earlier rumoured that Deepika Padukone was supposed to work in the film.
Speaking about casting Ishaan, Majidi said, “He is a talented guy, and I am sure he will become a big actor in Bollywood.”
Music composer AR Rahman, who has worked with the director in his last film, Muhammad: The Messenger of God (2015), will compose the music for Beyond The Clouds.
"His films have always influenced filmmakers in India. Down south, I hear his name every 10 minutes from aspiring filmmakers. I have worked in Hollywood and Indian cinema, and I always wished to work on Iranian films. I am glad I am working with Majidi again," said Rahman.
Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, will be seen next in director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Rangoon starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
