Sheila Dikshit promises to step aside for Akhilesh
Sheila Dikhit said she would be willing to step aside for the charismatic Akhilesh Yadav.
Hinting at a poll-alliance with the ruling SP party in upcoming UP Assembly elections, former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikhit said on Wednesday that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is a better chief minister candidate than herself.
“Of course, he (Akhilesh)is a better CM candidate than me, " said Sheila about the young chief minister. Speaking to NDTV, she denied that she was being made a scapegoat by the Congress leadership.
However, Congress could have taken her into confidence, while coming with allegation of Sahara-Birla papers, added Sheila.
Sheila Dikhit, told that she would be willing to step aside for the charismatic young leader. However, she added no one in Congress has told her about an alliance with SP in the UP election.
Dikhit’s statement assumes importance in current election scenario in the state, as SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav announced that his party will contest the elections alone and ruled out any chances of alliance with other parties.
Naresh Agarwal, senior SP leader and Rajya Sabha member said, now there are brighter chances of a SP-Congress alliance, after Akhilesh proved his dominance, sidelining Mulayam and ousting his opponents from SP.
Congress leaders had earlier begun talks with SP to forge an alliance with the party, in an effort to repeat their electoral success in Bihar against BJP.
Repeatedly, Congress’ steadfast demand for Deputy-Chief Minister’s post and around 100 seats in the election caused an abrupt end to the negotiations, alleged SP leaders.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh told media that in coming days, people will decide whom to vote for in the state elections. He hailed a number of infrastructure development projects undertaken during his tenure like the six-lane Agra- Delhi Expressway and Metro Rail project, as his major achievements.
