Six CPM men held for BJP worker’s murder in Kannur

Six CPM activists have been arrested for the murder of a BJP worker in Kerala's northern district of Kannur.

The 52-year-old BJP worker named Santosh died after he was attacked by a gang of unidentified men on Wednesday night when he was alone at his house in Kannur. Blaming the ruling CPM for the attack, the district unit of the BJP had observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Thursday.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Santosh was the BJP candidate for panchayat elections in Kannur, held last year.

NDTV quoted police sources as saying the murder was retaliatory in nature after CPM activist Aril, in his 20s, was attacked earlier this week, allegedly by RSS activists. His hands and legs were broken and he is currently hospitalised.
