Uber to hike fare by 50% in Delhi

From now on, Uber will be charging Rs 6 per km up to 20 km and Rs 12 per km thereafter.

Uber  has announced rise in fares of  entry level service ‘UberGo’ by up to 50% in Delhi-NCR. Uber announced a hike in minimum fare from current Rs40 to Rs60.

Also ride time charge has been changed to Rs 1.5 per minute from Rs 1. From now on, Uber will be charging Rs 6 per km up to 20 km and Rs12 per km thereafter.

Uber also announced  hiking rates of  ride time charges for its ‘UberPOOL’ and ‘UberX’ Rs1.5 per minute.

The Mint, has quoted a Uber spokesperson as saying, “Starting 5 January 2017, we have made some changes to our pricing structure in Delhi-NCR in order to serve the city better.” The prices are expected to go up by 10%-15%, added Uber.

Uber brought ‘upfront fare’ in 2016, to calculate and give rates based on the expected duration, distance of travel along with local traffic. The fares normally fluctuate owing to customers preferences, said Uber, adding that consumers always go for affordable taxi services in the country.


Uber is currently facing a stiff challenge from competitors like Indian operator Ola and radio taxi operators like Meru.
