UP police seize Muzaffarnagar riot CD from BJP MLA

Uttar Pradesh police seized an election campaign CD allegedly showing visuals of Muzaffarnagar riots from BJP MLA Sangeet Som's campaign vehicle in Meerut. The CD showed visuals of the gruesome communal riot in 2013 following a minor altercation between Hindu and Muslim youth.  Poli confirmed that the CD has been used to show gory images of the riot to whip up communal passions in UP villages ahead of next month’s elections.

About 62 people lost their lives in the riots, which helped the BJP to win majority of the seats in UP in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014.

The police have registered a case against the driver of the vehicle and the person who took permission for the vehicle under section 144 CrPc. Police added that clippings depicted a scuffle from Kawal village of Muzaffarnagar.

The Times of India has quoted Meerut district magistrate B. Chandrakala as saying, "We got a complaint from a source that a CD with clippings of Muzaffarnagar riots is being played on the election campaign vehicle of Sangeet Som in Sardhana area. I immediately called up the sub-divisional magistrate of Sardhana to look into the matter, who further informed police and seized the CD from the spot."

Chandra Pal Singh, circle officer, Sardhana, said, "The CD has been seized from the spot and a case under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Indian Penal Code has been filed against Birendra Singh, the driver, and Chandrashekhar Singh - who took permission from the election commission - for violating norms,” reported ToI.
