Vigilance probe against Kerala minister J Mercykutty
Mercykutty is facing probe for her involvement in the Rs 10.5 crore graft case in the cashew nut import by the Kerala Cashew Development Corporation.
Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) director Jacob Thomas ordered a probe against fisheries and cashews minister J. Mercykutty on Monday. Reportedly Mercykutty is facing probe for her involvement in the Rs 10.5 crore alleged graft in the cashew nut import by the Kerala Cashew Development Corporation.
Responding to media, Mercykutty said, she is welcoming the probe. Mercykutty’s husband B. Thulaseedhara Kurup is also facing investigation, added sources.
The Assembly witnessed stormy scenes between opposition MLA Satheesan and the minister earlier. Later advocate P Rahim sought a probe by the Vigilance in the matter, which has finally led to probe by the agency on Monday. The agency is reported to have taken evidence from Rahim, it is learnt.
Earlier, the minister said, she will resign from the government if found guilty in the Vigilance probe. Last year also, opposition MLA’s levelled similar charges against the minister for her role in the deal, which took place during August last year.
However, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has dismissed a probe by vigilance, terming the allegations as "baseless and politically motivated.''
