The World No 2 Serena Williams beat her sister Venus in straight sets to win her seventh Australian Open, while Swiss legend Roger Federer won his 18th Grand Slam title with a five-set victory over Rafael Nadal.
The World No 2 Serena Williams beat her sister Venus in straight sets to win her seventh Australian Open and final and to clinch her 23rd Grand Slam.
With this title, Serena passes Steffi Graf in the all-time list of major winners since the Grand Slams accepted professional players in 1968.
Serena, won 6-4 6-4 after dropping serve twice to start the first set. She made three double faults in the fourth game to get broken, but she rose from there and didn’t face another break in the match.

In Men’s singles final, Swiss legend Roger Federer beat his best rival Rafel Nadal to clinch his record 18th Grand Slam title in a five-set thriller. Tennis lovers couldn’t have asked for a much better final, where both the players were in their bests to test the other. The 35-year-old Federer went euphoric when Nadal’s challenge on the Swiss’s forehand winner was called down and put an end to the 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 match.
Both the players tested the other a lot and took two sets and led the match to a decisive 5th set. Nadal who was at his defensive best got an early break in the decider. But a god mode on Federer came back as his usual majesty and broke the Spaniard in the 6th game. He broke Nadal again in 8th and went on to serve for the Championship.
