Who is L-G Anil Baijal?

Former Union Home Secretary Anil Baijal took over as new Liutenant Governor of Delhi. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of Delhi High Court G Rohini.

This comes amid increasing confrontation between the AAP government and the centre on a range of contentious issue including control over bureaucracy.

Baijal was formally appointed as Delhi LG by President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday as a replacement of Najeeb Jung. A 1969-batch IAS officer, he served as Union Home Secretary during Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Baijal is the 20th Lt Governor of Delhi, who comes after Najeeb Jung resigned suddenly from the post on December 22.
The 70-year-old former bureaucrat has also been the vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and had headed key public sector companies like Prasar Bharti and Indian Airlines. He was removed as Union home secretary when the UPA government assumed power in May, 2004.
