Woman goes topless in front of RBI after failing to exchange notes
The woman, along with her child, had come to RBI office to exchange the scrapped notes as the 50-day deadline to deposit the old notes in banks ended on December 30
After failing to exchange a few junked currency notes at RBI regional office in Delhi, a frustrated poor woman reportedly went topless in front of the gate in protest.
The woman, along with her child, had come to RBI office to exchange the scrapped notes as the 50-day deadline to deposit the old notes in banks ended on December 30, but was turned away by guards after repeated requests, PTI reported.
Frustrated by this, the woman sat in front of the RBI entrance gate in protest, but later took off her clothes and sat topless after the guards tried to forcefully move her away from the entrance. The woman and the kid were later moved from the premise by the police.
Meanwhile, people were seen arguing with security guards at designated RBI branch after failed to exchange the old notes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier promised that old notes could be exchanged till March 31 at RBI, but the government broke the promise as it did with several other decisions after the demonetisation.
But the RBI central bank on December 31 designated only its five offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Nagpur to exchange scrapped notes after the 50-day demonetisation period.
