Chennai: 3-year-old girl sexually assaulted and killed, body found in garbage

In a horrific incident in Chennai, a 3-year-old girl was reportedly murdered after being sexually assaulted allegedly by her neighbour, who is being interrogated.
According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the gruesome incident came to light when the corpse, with its mouth gagged by rags, was found in a garbage yard in Tiruvottiyur, on Sunday afternoon. The kid was playing with her 5-year-old brother while their mother was down with fever and their father was at work on Saturday afternoon.
In the afternoon, around 3 pm, the mother woke up to realise her daughter was missing and the family lodged a complaint with Ernavur police. Efforts to locate the child did not fructify. Finally, conservancy workers who were unloading garbage spotted the child and alerted Tiruvottiyur police.
The parents identified the child, whose body was moved to Government Stanley hospital and the presence of a male body fluid was confirmed in preliminary autopsy findings.
The needle of suspicion fell on the child's neighbour who reportedly lured the girl to his house after buying her ice cream. The locals, upset over the incident, laid siege to Ernavur police station and resorted to a flash road roko demanding stringent action against the culprit.
Earlier, a Class 3 student was sexually assaulted, suffocated, burnt and dumped in a basket n the highway in Chennai a week ago.
The girl was stuffed in her mouth to prevent screaming which led to suffocation. The brutal crime has sent shockwaves across the state.
The 7-year-old girl was picked when she was playing near her apartment at Mugalivakkam in Chennai last evening. Her parents were reportedly gone out while she was playing. By the time they have returned the girl was not anywhere nearby.
