Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar launches political outfit MGR Amma Deepa Peravai

On the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, niece Deepa Jayakumar launched a new political outfit called 'MGR Amma Deepa Peravai'.

In addition to the name of the federation, she will be introduced its flag and revealed the names of its office bearers.

Unveiling her plans at her T Nagar residence, Deepa said that she was immensely happy to embark on her political journey on the birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa.

"I will continue my work as the political heir of Amma," she, adding that her outfit was not a new party but an initiative to "revive Amma's AIADMK."

In January, Deepa had announced that she will be making a public announcement regarding her entry into the state's political sphere on her aunt's birth anniversary.

On February 3, a former AIADMK MLA in Coimbatore announced at a press meet that Deepa's party will be called the All-India Amma Dravida Kazhagam. The flag too was revealed at the press meet. It was similar to the AIADMK flag, except that it had the images J Jayalalithaa, MGR and CN Anna Durai.

Following Deepa's announcement, however, there were rapid political developments in the state. It started with VK Sasikala being declared as the Legislative Party head. Deepa has in the past been vocal against Sasikala and her family. She has stated on several platforms that the former aide will not be accepted as a leader by party members and that Jayalalithaa had disliked Sasikala's family.
