Drama political at Kerala Law Academy: Two attempt suicide

The Kerala Law Academy witnessed dramatic scenes on Tuesday with a student, owing allegiance to the ABVP, threatening to commit suicide by hanging himself off a tree. After an hour or so, a Congress activist tried to self-immolate by dousing himself in petrol at the camp set by Congress leader K Muraleedharan in front of the law college in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is pertinent to mention that students of Kerala Law Academy are on an agitation for the last 28 days demanding the resignation of principal Lekshmi Nair for her casteist and sexist behaviour towards the students.

Student organisations like ABVP and KSU have extended their support to the agitation.

Third-year LLB student Shimith put a noose around his neck and climbed a tree demanding the resignation of Lekshmi Nair. Several students sat around the tree, protesting against the college management.

Police used water cannon to disperse students, who retaliated by pelting stones on them.

Finally, police personnel climbed the tree and brought him down forcibly.

Meanwhile, a Congress activist tried to set himself on fire at the camp where Muraleedharan is on a hunger strike. However, prompt action by Fire personnel averted any mishap.

Meanwhile, Malayala Manorama reported that the controversial restaurant situated inside the Kerala Law Academy was forcefully shut by KSU workers on Tuesday.
