The late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's nephew Deepak Jayakumar has announced his support for O Panneerselvam saying that the AIADMK needs leaders like him, E Madhusudanan and C Ponnaiyan ( sacked by party general secretary V K Sasikala "anti-party" activities) should lead the party.

Attacking TTV Dinakaran Deepak said, "Dinakaran is not fit to be the party deputy general secretary. My aunt was opposed to family politics. She got Dinakaran MP post (sic), and she threw him out of the party too," quoted a daily newspaper.

He also said that he was ready to pay the Rs 100-crore fine imposed by the court on Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa's nephew said the alleged split in AIADMK was not a serious one as it was a family turf war and will be sorted out soon.

"There will be only one candidate for the AIADMK in Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency. Our goal is to defeat Stalin, not OPS or Deepa (Jayalalithaa's niece)," Deepak said.

While talking about Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence Veda Nilayam, he said the house was a family property and belonged to him and Deepa Jayakumar. The late chief minister's nephew also said that there was no need to evict the present inmates and he was willing to pay the Rs 100-crore fine imposed on Jayalalithaa by availing loans.

Talking about the opposition's demand of a probe into former AIADMK chief's death, Deepak said, "If they want, let us have a probe. We are ready to prove our innocence to all including my sister Deepa. Everything from hospitalisation to treatment was genuine."

DMK's working president and the opposition leader MK Stalin will meet the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Friday, a day after he had asked President Pranab Mukherjee to nullify the Vote of Confidence in Tamil Nadu Assembly and direct the Governor to order for a flesh floor test through secret vote.
