West Bengal to get 3 more new districts, says Mamata Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that three new districts would be created in West Bengal named Kalimpong, Asansol and Jhargram.

Besides these three, the state government has plans to create another district for Sundarbans, the famous mangrove forest area where Royal Bengal Tiger and other wildlife varieties can be found, Mamata said.

"After the work for the creation of these three districts is over, Sundarbans will also become a district," Business Standard quoted as Mamata Banerjee saying.

Mamata Banerjee was talking to reporters at Kolkata airport while leaving for north Bengal for the inauguration of Kalimpong district.

Kalimpong has been carved out of Darjeeling district while Asansol and Jhargram would be created from existing Burdwan and West Midnapore districts respectively. Asansol and Jhargram would be inaugurated in April, the chief minister added.
