Manipur polls 2017: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal donates Rs 50,000 to Irom Sharmila's party
Kejriwal also made an appeal to people on Twitter to support Irom Sharmila.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday donated Rs 50,000 to rights activist-turned-politician Irom Sharmila's party, PRJA, which is fighting the 2017 Manipur Assembly election.
Ending her 16 years of hunger strike against the imposition of notorious Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Sharmila had decided to fight against the government politically to remove the "draconian act" from the soil of the north-eastern state, Manipur.
In a first in Manipur, the party formed by Sharmila started online crowdfunding to raise funds to fight the election against the opposition parties such as Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.
Kejriwal, in a tweet on Saturday, said he is donating Rs 50,000 to Irom Sharmila and also made an appeal to people on Twitter to help her while sharing the link.
“I am donating Rs 50,000 as my small contribution to her and appeal to everyone to support her,” he tweeted and urging people to donate generously to her.
