Musharraf shocked by Hafiz Saeed’s detention, says he is not a terrorist but a mujahid
Musharraf argued that both Lashkar and Saeed were actually fighting a jihad in Kashmir
Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf has slammed Pakistan government for detaining the Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, saying he was not a terrorist but a “mujahid’.
“This is a strange development. Why has Hafiz Saeed been put under house detention?” Musharraf questioned in a video message to Kashmiris on Pakistan’s Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5. “Who says he is a terrorist? He is not a terrorist.”.
Musharraf argues that both Lashkar and Saeed were actually fighting a jihad in Kashmir. “A young volunteer in Pakistan goes to Kashmir to fight Indian Army which has occupied the state in defiance of UN Resolutions on the state. He sacrifices his life for his Kashmiri brothers and sisters. Now how come he is a terrorist.” the former Pakistan president asks. “Who is a terrorist? Indian Army which is violating UN Resolutions on Kashmir and denying Kashmiris their rights? They are killing and oppressing unarmed civilians. Or those people are terrorists who are just demanding implementation of their UN guaranteed rights. And the volunteers from Pakistan only go to help them.”
He asks the Pakistan government to not go by UN designation of Lashkar and Saeed as terrorist. “It is being said that the UN has designated Hafiz Saeed as a terrorist. But why should we accept it?,” Musharraf said. “I want to tell India that first of all you should accept the UN Resolutions on Kashmir which you have signed then expect us to follow UN resolution on Lashkar and Hafiz Saeed. If India doesn’t accept UN’s Kashmir resolutions, we shouldn’t accept UN resolution on Saeed. Who is India to tell us to follow UN Resolutions on Saeed. And why should we obey”.
The former Pakistan president said that the Lashkar terrorists were “mujahideen” for Pakistan. “I am therefore very sad that we have put Hafiz Saeed under house terrorist,” Musharraf said adding that he knew how the resolutions are passed in the UN. “It is the might that is right. Influence is used. India used its influence to get Hafiz Saeed and his organization declared as terrorist. Now we are also toeing India’s line and justifying these resolutions”.
