Pakistan: Twin blasts in Lahore kills 8, injures several
. The blast was of severe nature and as a result windows of nearby buildings were smashed.
In yet another jolt to Pakistan in a series of blasts in past few weeks, 7 people were killed while around 19 others were left injured after a massive blast in Lahore.
Daily Pakistan reported that the blast occurred in DHA’s Z-block commercial area near scores of eateries. The blast was of severe nature and as a result windows of nearby buildings were smashed.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot soon after the blast. The injured were shifted to General hospital.
The report quoted bomb disposal squad as saying that a bomb was planted inside a building, for which around 8 to 10 kilogramme of explosive material was used. Initial reports on Pakistani television channel Geo News said a generator had exploded but reports at the scene speculated that a bomb had gone off, based on the extent of the damage.
Pakistani media reported that a second explosion was heard in Lahore's Gulberg. Casualties are feared.
Police have cordoned off the site and investigations have been launched.
Punjab’s law minister Rana SanaUllah while talking to Geo News expressed that the blast occurred inside a building which was under construction. "The area has been encircled. Nothing can be said about the nature of blast yet," said Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah.
According to the Twitter handle of the Government of the Punjab, it was a generator blast and rescue teams have reached the scene.
