Arguing to stop victim-blaming, protesters, including members of several organisations from northeastern states, gathered at the entrance of Hauz Khas Village today.
"It is unacceptable and strong measures need to be taken to prevent this. It is time that India must develop a national action plan for women security," said Binalakshmi Nepram, founder of Manipur Gun Survivors Network.
Protesters argued that the culprit must be punished as per the rule of the law at the earliest and the government should ensure proper relief and rehabilitation of the survivor.
In addition, they have also demanded special safety mechanisms for women hailing from conflict areas of Northeast India living in Delhi NCR, among others.
Meanwhile, police have reportedly arrested a suspect from a South Delhi locality. The Hindustan Times report quoted Ishwar Singh, DCP(South) as saying the accused who is in his 20s, has been identified as Raja alias Jhandel and he works at a small restaurant located near the village.
